Mentorship Pairing for Skill Transfer: Accelerating New Hire Onboarding in Forging Positions

Recently, Qingliang Mould has welcomed several new employees assigned to forging and machining positions. To help new hires quickly get up to speed and avoid common pitfalls, the company has launched a one-on-one mentorship pairing program, pairing new hires with senior employees with over ten years of experience to pass on hands-on skills.0bc839a14afe79d19850efecf0405092.jpg.webp

In the forging industry, core practical experience cannot be fully learned from drawings or manuals; many operational nuances and process details are developed through years of hands-on practice. Previously, without dedicated mentorship, new hires would take months to learn independently, often producing defective parts that wasted materials and delayed production schedules. For this program, the company selected senior employees with solid craftsmanship and a patient attitude as mentors: they not only teach basic skills such as equipment operation and billet temperature control, but also share practical tips and lessons learned from years of experience, such as judging forging temperature by the color of the billet and using tools efficiently and accurately—knowledge that cannot be fully captured in textbooks.56ad100f5602b6fca088680588faff3c.jpg.webp

Mentors are dedicated to teaching, and new hires are proactive in learning, assisting their mentors daily and asking questions promptly. In just over a month, new employees can now independently complete basic processes, with error rates significantly lower than before. Senior employees also note that while mentoring adds extra work, it is meaningful to see young employees grow quickly and pass on the company's practical craftsmanship from generation to generation.
